Million Dollar Ringer

A 41-year-old Los Angeles man became California's newest millionaire by winning a horseshoe-pitching contest at the Santa Anita Park race track.

John Placzankis celebrated his windfall by offering to buy drinks for every person in the crowd that witnessed the event on Saturday.

In a trackside interview immediately following his windfall, the punter told the crowd of 15,660 "the drinks are on me."

Placzankis, who said he hadn't tossed a horeshoe in 30 years, beat out four others for the one-million dollar prize by pitching a perfect ringer in his only try.

Placzankis was one of five horse racing fans who had their names drawn as finalists.

He said he tried to loosen up ahead of time by knocking back two beers. "I had a couple of beers, but they didn't have any effect."

Placzankis, who went from warehouse manager to millionaire in just a matter of minutes, said he plans to help his family out with the money.

"I am going to take care of my mom back home," said the former New Yorker. "I will pay some bills and take care of my nieces and nephews."

Asked what he was thinking as he prepared to make his opportune shot, he said, "I was just trying to relax. I'm pretty calm. I was just trying to throw it like a softball. I didn't want to go over the line (foul).

Some of the greatest pitchers grew up tossing shoes with dad. A good example is Alan Francis 8 time world Champ. He threw shoes with his pops on the family farm. Lets get some pits in Pedro so these two can get a trophy next year. The Shoe Is Family.

Holly Park, Hawthorne Ca

Ty and I rode out to Holly park on a little scouting mission. Holly was beat up, broken back boards and bent poles. Holly has a good layout and design. All she needs is a good horseshoe club / association to tune her up.

Hey Ladies

I recently noticed that the Snyder E-Z flip II is one of the more popular sets of horseshoes in the area. Mainly thrown by people that use the Flip technique. The Snyder E-Z flip II was designed and pitched by Sue Snyder.

Happy Birthday Vince

Surfari Charters meets San Pedro Horseshoe Pitching Club
S.P.H.P.C. members Mark and Matt recently went on a Surf trip to Nicaragua. The boys stay with Surfari Charters in Las Salinas. Realizing that they were staying with some good old fashioned folk that like to have a good time. They asked if they had any horseshoes and they replied yes with a smile.

Jimmy was money, throwin ringers left and right. CHA CHING.
Zach stayed consistent throughout the whole series. Real Yard-Core.
Mark decided to use his patented Granny shot with much success.
Matt put the final nail in the coffin with a Six Pack.
This story was inspired by our good friend Tona.

If your looking for incredible surf and great fishing all in the same package check out Surfari Charters. Thanks Again......  http://www.surfaricharters.com/
